Cupar Pilson BA Hons was born in Belfast and worked for many years as a graphic artist in printing and newspaper advertising. However his first love has always been to paint landscapes in oils, acrylics and mixed media. In recent years the human figure has tended to dominate, so that the landscape has become secondary to the foreground human subject matter.
Humour, a hint of whimsy, and a certain naivety of style are hallmarks of his work. He exhibits in various galleries and open exhibitions around Northern Ireland.
In recent years he has also successfully exhibited in the annual shows hosted by the Royal Ulster Academy. He is a past holder of the MacDonald Prize, the McKibben Prize, and the Jubilee Silver Medal in the Arts Society of Ulster's recent exhibitions.
His work is represented in various private collections throughout Northern Ireland, the Republic, the UK, USA, and Canada.
