During the 20 years or so, the previously unknown J P Rooney has so captivated the hearts of Irish art collectors in his native Ireland that he is now one of the country's best selling Irish artists. Since its first launch on the Irish art scene in 1997 with a sell out show, Rooney's work has been sold to Irish Art collectors on all corners of the earth.
Rooney's work has grown in confidence over the last few years. It is looser, bolder, more directly narrative, it has increased dramatic content, and assumes ever-greater depths of humanity. His palette is more adventurous, brush strokes more authoritative, and his compositions more assured. He shows human relationships, located within their physical and social environments. His themes are universal.
More recently, Rooney has been busy creating a special series of highly textured Irish art pieces depicting the remote harbours, coasts and cottages of old Ireland. These particular works of Irish art have proven to be highly sought after by art collectors and enthusiasts, alike with demand frequently outstripping supply.
