Born in Belfast, Roy displayed from an early age, a keen interest in painting and drawing. At the age of 28 years, such was his desire for painting that he gave up steady employment to embark on a full-time career as a professional artist.
Largely self-taught, Roy has worked in his Belfast studio ever since. In the 70's Roy had a number of his works published by the Frontier Times - True West Magazine in Austen, Texas. Some years later several of his works were selected for reproduction by a leading UK Fine Art print distributor. Roy is very well known throughout Ireland and internationally for his sympathetic depiction of characters from Irish Folklore, the Dying Trades, Wild West, as well as iconic figures from Americano encompassing Showbiz, Music and Film.
Recently, Roy has decided to be more adventurous in his paintings. He describes some of this work as "surrealistic" with each telling a story based on a humorous juxtaposition of characters. Today Roy's work hangs in many galleries and private collections across Ireland, UK, Europe, Canada and America. He is as enthusiastic and passionate as ever about his painting with an abundance of ideas yet to commit to canvas.
